Reasons to buy MaxiBed Horse & Animal Bedding

MaxiBed is a quality dust extracted bedding product. It provides a warm, well draining bed, which is easier to maintain than other forms of bedding.

MaxiBed is made from clean recycled wood, processed by us in our own factory to stringent quality standards. We undertake the full production cycle from collecting wood waste from our growing customer base through to production, packing and distribution to our stockists and end users.

Located in Bristol, we are a family run business with a  team of dedicated and hard working staff.

  1. Warm, Comfortable & Supportive
MaxiBed makes a warm and comfortable bedding layer retaining warmth and offering good insulation from the floor beneath the bed. It also stays friable meaning the surface layer does not tend to cake together like other bedding materials, allowing animals to move the material around to form a comfortable and supportive bed.
  2. Ideal for Dust Allergies & Respiratory Conditions
MaxiBed is made from recovered wood fibre which unlike other types of raw materials used in the manufacture of bedding material is low in dust from the outset. All remaining fine dust is extracted during the manufacturing process which makes MaxiBed ideal for use with animals who are sensitive to dust allergies and respiratory conditions.
  3. Keeps Dry on Top & Free Draining
MaxiBed is made of wood chips, not flakes or shavings. Wood chips are chunkier in cross section and are irregular in shape. This allows moisture to drain freely through the bed keeping the surface layer nice and dry on top.
  4. Quick & Easy to Muck Out
A MaxiBed bed is really easy to maintain. Muck can simply be lifted straight off the surface leaving the bed beneath undisturbed. This means less MaxiBed is then required to replenish and maintain the bed.
  5. Reduced Wastage
Because the mucking out process removes mainly the muck and not the MaxiBed, the amount of bedding material wastage is greatly reduced. This results in a smaller muck heap, compost heap or less trips to the recycling centre.
  6. Biodegradable
After use MaxiBed can be disposed of in the same way as other traditional forms of bedding, however if you are making a muck heap MaxiBed is much less likely to blow about in the wind and easier to form a muck heap with. It will also rot down nicely and can be used to spread on land or plough in to condition soil structure.

“After years of using many other types of bedding, I’ve found that MaxiBed is better than anything I’ve tried before.”

What is MaxiBed Wood Fibre Animal Bedding?

MaxiBed is a quality dust extracted bedding product. It provides a warm, well draining bed, which is easier to maintain than other forms of bedding.

MaxiBed is made from clean recycled wood, processed by us in our own factory to stringent quality standards. We undertake the full production cycle from collecting wood waste from our growing customer base through to production, packing and distribution to our stockists and end users. Located in Bristol, we are a family run business with a  team of dedicated and hard working staff.

Unlike other bedding materials wood fibre remains friable, meaning that it does not “cake” together. This makes it is very easy to maintain as muck can be simply lifted straight off the top of the bed, reducing the amount of material needed to maintain the bed on a daily basis; it also drains really well leaving the top of the bed dryer and more comfortable.

MaxiBed is available throughout the UK from our appointed stockists or direct delivery from our factory. MaxiBed comes in weather resistant, heat sealed bales weighing approximately 25kg each.

To keep our costs down we do not (unlike other manufacturers) spend huge sums on advertising and sponsorship, preferring instead to pass these savings on to our customers. Our marketing is based on producing a consistent quality product, providing excellent service, keeping our prices competitive and relying on our growing reputation for quality and service to sell MaxiBed.

We are always happy to discuss using Maxibed and the many varied applications to which it is suited. Please feel free to get in touch to discuss any questions you may have.

The Best Choice For Your Animals

MaxiBed horse and animal bedding is a great recycling solution as it is made from clean recycled wood collected by us from our own network of customers.

Originally having been damaged unrepairable pallets and crates that have reached the end of their useful life, we transport these to our factory and, via a number of stages, convert this into MaxiBed and our other wood based products.

This gives our recycled wood another useful life beyond its original purpose. All of our wood based products are not just eco friendly, they also each outperform the conventional alternatives in a number of ways.

Dave Nichols of Ripon: Ideal for Reptiles & Exotic Pets

“MaxiBed is perfect. It really is ideal for small animals. I buy it a bale at a time and each bale lasts me for ages. I used to buy smaller packs from pet shops but that was much more expensive. My animals all seem to do well on it, in fact quite a few of the people that I have sold animals to have now stared to use it! Maybe I should ask for some commission!”

How To Use Maxibed

 For Horses

MaxiBed comes in approx 25kg heat sealed bales. A full pallet comprises of 30 bales stacked and covered with a UV resistant slip cover enabling convenient outside storage. (Other pallet combinations are also available.)

Making up a MaxiBed is very straightforward. Typically a 12’ x 12’ stable will require around 4-6 bales to set up initially. Weekly maintenance thereafter will require around ½ to 1 bale.

Mucking Out

Provided that the bed is deep enough the surface should remain dry. Use a shavings fork or gloves to pick up droppings from the surface. Wet patches should be removed with a fork or shovel after lifting off the top layer and placing it to the side for re-use. Ideally, remove the wet patches daily or weekly. Top up the bed with MaxiBed as required.

If the floor does not have a slight drainage slope, we recommend a deeper bed to aid drainage through the product and keep the top dry.

The Muck Heap

After use, MaxiBed can be placed on the muck heap and it will rot down in the same way as any other wood based bedding material. It is however less likely to be blown around by wind and weather. A MaxiBed muck heap is also less likely to attract rats and other vermin. After it has rotted down it can be spread on the land easily as it does not tend to clog together.

How to use MaxiBed

For Chickens, other Poultry, Game, Foul & Pigeons.

A thin layer of MaxiBed should be spread over the floor of the house to completely cover the surface. This should then be topped up as and when required to form a deeper litter. It is good practice to remove droppings regularly and completely clear out the house once per month.

For laying boxes or broody coops we recommend a deeper layer of MaxiBed of up to 50mm (2”). This gives the birds sufficient depth to snuggle into.

When cleaning out simply mix the MaxiBed into the compost heap and it will rot down nicely.

How to use MaxiBed

For Reptiles, Domestic & Exotic Pets

It is recommended to thoroughly clean the enclosure first and remove all previous bedding material. Next, depending on the type of animal using the bed, place a suitable depth of MaxiBed in the enclosure. Remove droppings regularly and replace the MaxiBed as and when required.
